Facilitated a 3-day International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) – Sweden Sponsored Seminar on Access to Justice and Fair Trial. This seminar held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, drew participants from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and Sweden.
Facilitated a stakeholder’s workshop on Terrorism and Human Rights for the National Counter-Terrorism Center, Nairobi.
Facilitated, together with Hon. Dr. Noah Wekesa, a 3-day workshop for members of Sudan’s Northern Democratic Alliance on Political Party Coalition Building, Cairo Egypt. The International Republican Institute, Sudan Office, sponsored this workshop.
Conducted a freedom of Information Survey and a legal Audit on the existing laws and policies governing access to information in Kenya on behalf of ICJ- (K). This exercise involved an Analysis of Access to Information as a right enshrined in the constitution of Kenya and its adequacy in the light of international standards and best practices. It is also entailed a review of the existing legal framework, an evaluation of task force reports, Government of Kenya and civil society efforts in operationalizing this right.
Drafting of the Media Council of Kenya Bill. The Bill has received enactment by Kenya’s National Assembly and operates as The Media Act. The exercise involved liaising with all key stakeholders in the media industry in Kenya, gathering views on the Bill, studying past industry reports and facilitating 3 (No) technical workshops on the Bill.
Preparation of a Draft Manual for Vetting, Confirming and/or Approving presidential Appointees to public office, prepared for the Legal Affairs Committees of the Kenyan Parliament
Facilitated a 3-day workshop for Kenya’s parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs and Administration of Justice on Transitional Justice; White Sands Hotel, Mombasa
Facilitated an American Bar Association sponsored workshop on Anti-Trafficking in Human Beings Legislation in East Africa at a Regional Anti-Trafficking in Human Beings Conference in Kampala, Uganda. I also made a presentation on Re-drafting Kenya’s Criminal Laws in view of present Global trends on Trafficking in Human Beings.
Conducted an analysis of Kenya’s Suppression of Terrorism Bill on behalf of the Law Society of Kenya and facilitated 2(No) public Forum discussions on the same, New Stanley Hotel, Nairobi.
